RegisterThe new chapter of the cycle dedicated to the presence of Murano glass at the Biennale examines the period between 1948 and 1958.
The new exhibition 1948-1958 Murano glass and the Venice Biennale , curated by Marino Barovier, will be open to the public at LE STANZE DEL VETRO from April 19 to November 22, 2026. The third chapter of the exhibition cycle which tells the story of the presence of Murano glass at the Venetian event will this time examine the decade from 1948 to 1958, that is, from the resumption of the Biennale's activity after the end of the Second World War until the 1950s. Hosted once again inside the Venice Pavilion, the glass exhibitions held during this period testified to the renewed vitality of Murano's production through the work of some “historic” glassworks, others recently established, as well as some artists who participated in their personal capacities. This decade, in fact, also represented an exceptionally fertile season for Murano, in tune with the great fervor of the time that was being experienced in various sectors thanks to the economic boom and the affirmation of design culture. The main protagonists of these editions were the glassworks: AVEM (Giulio Radi, Anzolo Fuga), Cenedese (Alfredo Barbini, Fulvio Bianconi, Riccardo Licata), Alfredo Barbini, Barovier & Toso, Ferro & Lazzarini (Ezio Rizzetto), IVR Mazzega, Salviati (Luciano Gaspari), Seguso Dalla Venezia (Ezio Rizzetto), Seguso Vetri d'Arte (Flavio Poli), Archimede Seguso, Alberto Toso, Aureliano Toso (Dino Martens), Fratelli Toso, SALIR, Vinicio Vianello, and Venini (Fulvio Bianconi, Paolo Venini). The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue edited by Marino Barovier and Carla Sonego, which aims to illustrate the objects seen in these editions, including through period documents.
