The Delaware River becomes a glowing stage for creativity and community with the return of the Aqualumina Festival. A joyful convergence of art, music, performance, and light, Aqualumina is an opportunity to celebrate our perch along the Delaware River and the interconnected beauty of the world’s rivers, oceans, coral reefs, icebergs, and rain systems. At the heart of this year's Festival is a luminous procession, where choral music and illuminated sea creatures drift together in a glowing spectacle. Stay tuned! We'll be adding details of the Festival as it draws closer! Aqualumina was designed to bring the community together around the dreamy charms of a riverbank at dark. It launched in 2021 with a performance by JUNK in Ancestral Lights, an outdoor dance performance illuminating refugee narratives and kindling light in a time of darkness and displacement, culminating in a joyous communal dance featuring community members carrying illuminated paper lanterns at ArtYard’s Courtyard. The raindate for this event is Sunday, May 10. Joining the Aqualumina procession involves walking in low-light conditions on uneven terrain. Participants assume all risks associated with this activity. ArtYard is not responsible for injuries. Those who prefer to be spectators for the event can meet along the rail trail in front of ArtYard Center before the procession or join us at Lenape Sunbeam Park afterward.
