Canadian Pavilion 2026: Entre chien et loup

Abbas Akhavan will represent Canada in the 61ste international art exhibition, The Biennale di Venezia 2026.

Abbas Akhavan was born in Tehran and lives between Montreal and Berlin. His multidisciplinary practice reflects the relationships between places and history, taking into account the geopolitical forces that define spaces. Abbas Akhavan's extensive artistic practice ranges from ephemeral site-specific installations, drawing, video, sculpture and performance. His recent large-scale installations recreate cultural sites affected by international conflict taking into account the multiple ways in which current geopolitical views compete for control of historical narratives. In his works, Mr. Akhavan critically addresses the aftereffects of displacement and upheaval by examining the influence of these forces on the boundaries between public and private spaces, domesticated and natural landscapes, and hostility and hospitality.
