RSVPMarking twenty years since the passing of Mário Cesariny de Vasconcelos (1923–2006), this exhibition at Casa da Liberdade - Mário Cesariny evokes the tutelary figure and unique work of one of the greatest names in 20th-century Portuguese culture. The showcase revisits the last exhibition the artist inaugurated in his lifetime, on November 2, 2006, at Perve Galeria, opening its doors once again two decades later. Entitled 'Cesariny, Cruzeiro Seixas, Fernando José Francisco - and the walk of the exquisite corpse,' that unforgettable exhibition marked the reunion, after 55 years apart, of three historical founders of the 1940s Portuguese surrealist group 'Os Surrealistas'. Placing the plastic universe of Mário Cesariny, Cruzeiro Seixas, and Fernando José Francisco at its center, the exhibition pathway welcomes both individual works and the collaborative pieces from this historic reunion, including the series of twelve 'exquisite corpses' inspired by the Paris Surrealist Group's process. The exhibition thus unfolds as a heartfelt tribute to these artists, proving that their 'Surrealist Revolution' remains alive, liberating, and deeply connected to individual aspirations. Above all, it is a celebration of poetry, love, and creative freedom that continue to transcend time through the author's timeless legacy.
