About event

Le Bleu Secret presents Dolorès Marat’s dreamlike photographs, where light, colour and movement transform everyday encounters into mysterious scenes. At Buchkunst Berlin, 12 September–31 October 2026. About Buchkunst Berlin opens its autumn season with Le Bleu Secret, a solo exhibition bringing together key works by French photographer Dolorès Marat. Marat’s photographs inhabit a world where everyday life and mystery, observation and memory, reality and imagination overlap. Nocturnal streets, interiors, people and animals become protagonists in fleeting encounters, transformed by light, colour and movement. The exhibition’s title, “The Secret Blue”, evokes a state of perception: the uncertain passage between day and night, when familiar surroundings begin to appear strange. Working intuitively and quickly, Marat responds to situations that move her. Her characteristic blur records this spontaneous approach, allowing contours to dissolve and gestures to linger. Artificial light lends ordinary places an unexpected intensity. The resulting images suggest fragments of films, dreams or memories, inviting viewers to imagine their own stories. The physical print is central to Marat’s practice. Long associated with the velvety surfaces and muted colours of the Fresson carbon printing process, her work is presented here as pigment prints on Japanese Awagami paper. Born in Paris in 1944 and now based in Provence, Marat has developed a distinctive photographic language over several decades. Her work received a major presentation at Les Rencontres d’Arles in 2023, when a monograph also appeared in the celebrated Photo Poche series. An accompanying video interview recorded by Buchkunst Berlin offers insights into the artist’s working methods and her personal relationship with individual photographs. Opening: Saturday, 12 September 2026, 6–10 pm, with an introduction by Thomas Gust. Exhibition: 12 September–31 October 2026. Opening hours: Thursday–Saturday, 2–6 pm, and by appointment. Venue: Galerie Buchkunst Berlin, Oranienburger Straße 27, 10117 Berlin. Read more Toggle Prints Photography
