RSVPBritish abstract landscape artist Jeremy Gardiner presents 18 ceramic works inspired by the Jurassic Coast and Lake District, exploring landscape, geology and time through clay, relief and colour. About British artist Jeremy Gardiner presents Topographies in Clay at Objectismo Gallery in Lisbon, marking a new chapter in his longstanding exploration of landscape, geology and the passage of time. The exhibition brings together 18 ceramic wall plaques inspired by two UNESCO World Heritage Sites in England: the Jurassic Coast, with its cliffs and ancient rock formations, and the Lake District, where mountains, lakes and waterfalls reveal the continuous transformation of the landscape. For the first time, Gardiner translates his distinctive pictorial language into ceramic. Working with Lisbon-based ceramicists Suzana Barros and Vera Teotónio at Oficina do Castelo, he developed new techniques and glazes to recreate the layered surfaces, textures and colours characteristic of his paintings. The project has its roots in two encounters: with the work of Brazilian ceramicist Francisco Brennand in Recife in 2001, and with Portuguese artist Querubim Lapa’s ceramic murals in Lisbon in 2020. Topographies in Clay brings these influences together with Gardiner’s decades-long investigation of the materiality and geology of landscape. Read more Toggle Painting Sculpture
