RSVP"Images are put to work." Before we ask whether an image is true, it has already been put to work: measuring, sorting, deciding what we see and what is left out. iros.gallery presents 《IMAGES at Work.》, the first Berlin solo exhibition of Julian Kyusang Lee. About iros.gallery is pleased to present IMAGES at Work., a solo exhibition by South Korean artist Julian Kyusang Lee, on view from 30 October through 05 December 2026. “IMAGES at Work. reveals the tasks assigned to images and deflects their functions, creating conditions in which bodies, memories and relationships that cannot be fully contained by calculation and classification can act in the present.” - Julian Kyusang Lee from Propositions on the exhibition and its practice Images are put to work. They record and classify. They organise what we are meant to see and how we are meant to judge it. Julian Kyusang Lee makes the instruments of image-making his subject. A chroma-key colour built to disappear is kept in view. A focus chart meant only to calibrate a lens stands at the centre of a snowfield. In photography, sculpture and installation, Lee suspends the function each tool was given. In that suspension, what the tool was built to remove is allowed to return. Living and working across cultural boundaries, Lee understands translation as a shift between systems rather than a simple shift of words. Once an image is freed from its job, there is space for the real bodies, memories, and relationships that no system can fully measure. The exhibition proposes that one image does not guarantee one experience.
