Leanne McDonagh

Leanne McDonagh is an artist based in County Cork. She explores imagery and subject matter associated with the Traveller community. About Her work dismantles common stereotypes by reinterpreting Traveller identity in dynamic, affirmative ways. McDonagh focuses on photography that fuses abstraction and figuration through intentional technical and aesthetic strategies. She is now expanding her visual language into printmaking, increasing both the pictorial and documentary scope of her work. This exhibition features new prints alongside a significant selection of earlier photographs. It marks McDonagh’s largest showcase to date and her first solo show in five years. The works depict daily life among McDonagh’s family and other members of the Traveller community. They explore social relationships to reveal the universal human qualities shared by Travellers and the wider population. The exhibition is produced by Sirius Arts Centre in Cobh, County Cork, and curated by Miguel Amado, Director. It is supported by the Arts Council through a Project Award. The presentation at Sirius Arts Centre is part of a tour also involving Uillinn: West Cork Arts Centre and Limerick City Gallery of Art, produced by Rayne Booth and supported by the Arts Council through the Touring of Work Scheme.
