Louise Giovanelli, Masons Yard

An exhibition of new works by Manchester-based artist Louise Giovanelli examining the tension between representation and materiality. About White Cube Mason's Yard presents an exhibition of new works by Manchester-based artist Louise Giovanelli (b. 1993, London). The presentation follows the artist's recent touring exhibition, 'A Song of Ascents', which opened at The Hepworth Wakefield, UK, in 2024, and her major outdoor commission for St Mary-le-Strand Church, London, last year. Probing the tension between representation and materiality, and between figuration and abstraction, Giovanelli draws on contemporary and historical imagery, as well as sacred and profane motifs, to question the act of looking. Her paintings examine the physical qualities of paint, revealing its capacity to hold, transmit and complicate meaning. Read more Toggle Painting
