RSVPCallirrhoë is happy to present a solo exhibition by the artist duo Ileana Arnaoutou and Ismene King. Continuing their research into the afterlives of industrial ruins and natural remnants, Arnaoutou and King present a new installation that serves as a love letter to the decaying landscape of a former quarry on the island of Aegina. As part of their presentation in Callirrhoë, Arnaoutou and King turn the exhibition space into a study room of sorts. Their new body of work takes the form of a taxonomic display that incorporates left behind gems, eroded materials and older works from the ‘Cases’ series either hanging or carefully placed inside ‘archival’ boxes and storage trays made of wire mesh. Inside this organizing structure, waste becomes a specimen, a way to understand and approach the landscape as well as ourselves within it.
