RegisterThe Ministry of Culture of the Government of Mexico and the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBAL) announce that the collective RedBlack has been commissioned to represent Mexico at the 61st International Art Exhibition at the Venice Biennale. About Throughout the different editions of the Venice Art Biennale, the selection of the project that represents Mexico has adopted various modalities. On this occasion, a curatorial process was chosen, for which INBAL invited an advisory board made up of Jessica Berlanga Taylor, Manuela Moscoso and Osvaldo Sánchez, aimed at the analysis and assessment of various artistic profiles, with the aim of identifying a proposal solid and representative for Mexico's participation in the Biennial. After a process of analysis and deliberation by the council, the proposal of RedBlack —titled Invisible acts to sustain the universe — was selected for its conceptual framework and ability to articulate sensitive, situated and critical visions. The proposal addresses urgent issues such as ancestral memory, epistemic justice, decolonization and relational ecology, from a practice that works with indigenous, Afro-descendant and peasant cosmogonies, not as external references, but as living thought matrices that organize their forms of creation, bond and imagination. RedBlack it is a duo of artists made up of María Sosa and Noé Martínez, whose practice intertwines ancestral memory, body languages and ritual technologies from a decolonial perspective. Through installation, performance, sound and the use of organic materials, his work summons situated forms of knowledge that question colonization processes and their persistent effects on contemporary bodies, territories and worldviews. The project of RedBlack will dialogue with In Minor Keys ( Minor Mode ), proposal for this edition developed by the Biennial curatorial team based on the approach of the recently deceased curator Koyo Kouoh. According to his text, the exhibition is conceived as “a collective score composed together with artists who have built imaginative universes: artists working at the limits of form, whose practices can be understood as intricate melodies that are heard both collectively and on their own. They are artists whose works merge organically with society”. Read more Toggle Performance / Live Art Installation Audio / Sound
