RJ's current 'Nocturnos' series emulates late-night inspiration, mixing vintage and modern visuals with mythological and platonic themes of love and companionship. His work often feels like a stage play, inviting viewers to sit in the front row and witness a blend of humor, nostalgia and emotional depth. Artist Statement: I was born and raised in a little town in the country side of mid western Mexico, in what was a mix of country life and a suburban feel, at some extent. I was born at the end of the 70's and grew up during the 80's, I've been drawing since I can remember and as expected, I spend too much time in my imagination and thus I wasn't a bright student and hardly finished high achool, and due to lack of knowledge and good judgment, I deprived myself of higher education. As the years passed I got deeper into a state of nothingness, and desperate for a way out and thanks to my muse and family I decided to go back into art making after more than a decade of rarely drawing. Due to a constrained situation in which I live, I have not many options, thus doing art has givien me a way to help myself move forward. I had many influences through out my life, and once I understood them I was able to craft and pursue a style, I always wanted to be known for my artwork itself and not for my name on it. I started with mostly art based on illustration, ink on paper and now I mixed that with painting on canvases or panels, at the end is not the medium or the rendering but the style and characters that I created that define what I do, and it pleases me to keep developing them along my own stories and mythologies.
