Performance: Daniel V. Melim

Solo exhibition by Daniel V. Melim There is a kind of vertigo in encountering Daniel V. Melim’s paintings. It is not merely a vertigo caused by the interplay of scales or the overlapping of figures, but a more profound sense of disorientation. Through the images the artist constructs, the sensation of entering a universe that seems familiar yet, at the same time, eludes recognition, grows ever stronger. Masks, partially concealed bodies, small figures that appear mysteriously, presences with their backs turned to the viewer, flowers that take on an almost monumental scale, and what seem to be landscapes sometimes transform into the very event of the image itself. There seem to be latent worlds that contain other worlds, bringing us closer to an experience of something that is sensed before it is understood. Read more Toggle Performance / Live Art
