PhEST – International Festival of Photography and Art returns to Monopoli, Puglia, from August 7th to November 1st 2026, with a programme including photography, contemporary art, cinema, memory and research. About From Horst von Harbou’s rare photographs on the set of Metropolis, Fritz Lang’s visionary 1927 film—images of a future imagined 100 years ago that remain strikingly relevant today—to a tribute marking the centenary of the birth of Vivian Maier, the ‘nanny photographer’ who never went out without her camera and whose work was discovered by chance at a Chicago auction in 2007 before travelling around the world. The programme also features Joan Fontcuberta, the Spanish artist who explores the relationship between image, knowledge and fiction; Juno Calypso, the London photographer whose pop-pink aesthetic enters the underground house built in 1970s Las Vegas by Avon’s CEO as a refuge in the event of nuclear war, creating images in which beauty and the fear of the end intertwine; Marek Kita, with his unsettling images of child soldiers; and Harri Pälviranta, who reworks press photographs documenting real episodes of twentieth-century violence. https://www.phest.info/ Performance / Live Art Design / Fashion Mixed media Drawing Installation Film / Video Photography Audio / Sound
