Planting Fields Foundation opens Catalyst 2026: Fragment of the Foundations for a Babel Tower by Fiona Tan About Fiona Tan, renowned Dutch artist and filmmaker, has been selected as Planting Fields Foundation’s Catalyst 2026 artist—the seventh artist to be commissioned as part of the annual program. Best known for her video and film installations in which explorations of memory, identity, and the role of visual images are central, Tan’s site-specific project, Fragment of the Foundations for a Babel Tower ( Fragment ), reflects an ongoing exploration of temporality, folly, and form. Its unfinished quality, evoking both ancient ruins and speculative architecture. Fragment will be open to the public on October 17, 2026, and remains on view until September 1, 2027. The Catalyst commissions further position Planting Fields as a cultural institution extending the historic tradition of the Coe family’s arts patronage into the present day. By embracing both preservation and contemporary creation, Planting Fields Foundation offers a compelling stewardship model for how historic sites can also serve as platforms for international artistic exchange, public discourse, and cultural innovation. Visitor Information Planting Fields is located at 1395 Planting Fields Road, Oyster Bay, NY , on Long Island’s North Shore. The park is open every day from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (closed December 25).
