RegisterSomoS Arts invites you to Shed, a solo exhibition by New York City-based Artist-in-Residence Eloise Harcourt. Her new group of sculptures, developed during her residency at SomoS, creates an exhibition where the tension between care and control takes a physical form. About Shaped by analyzing medical systems, reproductive violence, and institutional regimes of care, Harcourt’s work asks where support ends and discipline begins. Harcourt creates sculptural situations in which soft, sagging bodily surfaces rest against rigid frames. Working with materials and textures that evoke skin, hair, folds, and bodily structures, Harcourt has turned the gallery into an immersive environment of containment and exposure. Rather than presenting the body in its idealized notion, Shed gives form to states of distortion, leaking, and resistance, where the body is both deeply personal and strangely objectified. Through shifts in scale, juxtaposition, and repetition, Harcourt’s sculptural language invites viewers to register small bodily reactions like discomfort, empathy, and curiosity, as part of the work itself, immersing the viewer in the dynamics of looking, caring, and controlling. The closing Artist Talk will bring visitors into Harcourt’s process, tracing how her research into medical history, reproductive violence, and everyday tools of control informs the sculptural language of Shed . The exhibition will open on Tuesday, April 21 at 7 p.m., and a special program is offered from Friday, May 1, until Sunday, May 3, as part of the Sellerie Weekend Festival.
