Surface Histories - Leah Crews

This month in our gallery: an exhibition of prints by Leah Crews. About Surfaces record the passing of time, collecting memories of their interactions with humans and with nature. The printmaker's block likewise, carries the hand of the artist as well as the marks of man-made tools, carved into its own surface texture. The prints in this exhibition explore the layers and textures of natural and man-made surfaces altered over time. Leah Crews is a South London based printmaker, working with linocut and Japanese woodblock printmaking (mokuhanga), sometimes combining the two techniques within a single print. Her work is often inspired by Japan, where she trained in woodblock printmaking and has spent much time exploring. Leah holds a BA in Fine Art from Bath Spa University and an MA in Japanese Studies from SOAS, University of London. Read more Toggle Prints
