Debut New York solo exhibition of The Wild Within by artists Ryan Koopmans and Alice Wexell from 6-8 pm on September 10 at Leila Heller Gallery New York. About Ryan Koopmans and Alice Wexell present The Wild Within , their first solo exhibition in New York. The long-term project begins with photographs and three-dimensional scans of abandoned architectural spaces around the world. The artists introduce digitally sculpted foliage, changing light and subtle movement, reimagining these deteriorating interiors as places of transformation and renewal. The exhibition brings together archival pigment prints, infinitely looping motion works and a new series of hand-cut glass mosaic wall sculptures. The mosaics reinterpret Soviet-era floral postcards discovered in an abandoned post office in Georgia, whose saturated imagery within the deteriorating remains of a past civilization helped inspire the project’s early development.
