RSVPThe exhibition considers how we impose grids upon the landscape, transforming terrain into territory and place into property. Borders cut across geography, raising questions of ownership, belonging and the ways we define what is ours and what is shared. About Jeff Morrical expands his distinctive language of folded paper through wall sculptures, works in the round and large-scale installation. The mountains and valleys created by the folds become flowing abstractions of watercolor, juxtaposed with the hard-lined repetition of block printing. These maps of unknown places ask: What is yours and what is mine? What belongs to all of us, and what belongs to no one? Morrical’s practice is rooted in the possibilities of paper. His single-sheet sculptures are shaped through folds and gravity. Drawing from years of experience in architecture, he finds form, structure and pattern in everyday materials. While primarily sculptural, Morrical’s works can become canvases, objects for movement and performance, toys for play and surfaces for projection—revealing abundant possibilities in one of the world’s most ubiquitous materials. His practice reflects an ongoing mission to uncover the geometric properties latent in every sheet of material, one fold at a time. Read more Toggle Installation Sculpture
