TOOLs – Artist Lecture: Icyyy Grip

Kialy Tihngang, Icyyy Grip — Artist Lecture at 198 Contemporary Arts & Learning

Join us for a performance lecture by Kialy Tihngang as part of the public programme for TOOLs, a multidisciplinary group exhibition featuring Ella Wanendeya, Fi Sonola, and Kialy Tihngang, curated by Shane Sutherland. Tihngang’s practice explores colonial misrepresentation, extraction and the fabulation of West African cultural artefacts through moving image, sculpture and performance. In this lecture, she will reflect on the research and processes behind Icyyy Grip (2025), examining the body as a site shaped by systems of care, control and representation. The session will expand on the conceptual and material frameworks within her work, considering how objects, technologies and narratives operate within wider structures of power.
