Transmissions Canto Iii. Intermission

TRANSMISSIONS is a four-episode exploration of correspondences between the animate, inanimate and the metaphysical. About CANTO III. INTERMISSION. ANGELO MADONNA I think of Intermission as a space between departure and arrival, signal and silence, a temporary suspension within a continuous process. I am drawn to this moment of pause, not as an absence of action, but as a possibility: a moment in which something can be held, repeated, transformed or transmitted differently. Like an aeroplane carries us between places, suspended between departure and arrival; the run-out-groove of a vinyl record becomes a suspended moment, caught between movement, repetition and silence. Similarly, a piano that responds to the river’s tides, controlled by their movement, allows nature to determine its rhythm. Each work explores an interval in which something is suspended, redirected or transformed. I imagine these temporary spaces as something alive, never entirely empty. They hold the residual of what came before and the possibility of what might follow. Within it, time seems to loosen, and imagination begins to move freely, connecting things that might otherwise remain apart.
