RSVPDeveloped through painting on site at rewilding locations and conversations with ecologists, the work explores our impulse to control nature and questions what we consider to be a healthy landscape. About In What Is Wild? , Kimi Zoet explores our relationship with the natural world through a body of paintings shaped by her time spent in rewilding landscapes. Observing environments where nature is being given space to evolve on its own terms, Zoet considers our impulse to control the natural world and the possibility of finding beauty, balance and wisdom in its untamed forms. Through painting, she looks closely at the details, patterns and relationships that emerge within these landscapes, questioning our ideas of what nature should look like and what it means for a landscape to be healthy. At the heart of this is a recurring idea in Zoet’s thinking: mess is good . Rather than seeking order or perfection, her work embraces the irregularity, unpredictability and complexity of the natural world, suggesting that what we perceive as disorder may be essential to its vitality. The paintings invite us to reconsider our place within nature, and to recognise the value of allowing the world around us to grow, change and exist on its own terms.
