RSVPGallerie Nvya presents What the Light Remembers, a solo exhibition by Riddhi Shah exploring memory, nature and inherited structures through jaali-inspired paper cuts and botanical imagery. About What the Light Remembers is a solo exhibition of recent works by artist Riddhi Shah, presented by Gallerie Nvya at its Saket space. Working across gouache, watercolour, gold pigment and walnut stain on Sanganeri and acid-free paper, Shah brings together the geometric language of the jaali and forms drawn from the natural world to consider memory as fluid, selective and continually reconstructed. Across the works, paper-cut jaali patterns intersect with painted botanical imagery, with sections of the paper cut away to create spaces of absence. Light, shadow and negative space consequently become active elements of the compositions, shifting with the viewer’s position and the surrounding light. Drawing on traditions of Sanganeri wasli and Mughal miniature painting, Shah explores the relationship between pattern and freedom, asking how inherited structures, natural systems and histories shape experience, and where possibilities for freedom emerge within them.
