RegisterSpring in the natural world is a season of renewal and new beginnings. The same is true for the Wolverhampton Society of Artists. This exhibition marks the springtime of the society’s year – a moment when work conceived and created over the past year, often in the quiet darkness of winter, is brought into the light of spring. The exhibition celebrates a society that continues to flourish after over one hundred years of existence, highlighting both its longevity and its remarkable diversity. The breadth of work on display reflects a society that is not content to stand still or look backwards. Instead, it looks forward, welcoming new artists and fresh ideas – some of them challenging and thought provoking. There are many reasons why artists create, and this show demonstrates the diversity of artistic expression and reflects the wide range of experiences, perspectives, and reasons for making art within the society. This Spring Show not only showcases the work of the society and its individual members, but also reaches out to the wider community, encouraging a shared love of making and engaging with art. It recognises that art can question, challenge, and deepen our understanding of the world in which we live, as demonstrated by many of the works on display.
