About event

Explore mark-making and printmaking in an intimate workshop with artist Mandy Smith. All materials provided, create your own prints!

Join artist, Mandy Smith, for an intimate, hands-on printmaking workshop designed for a small group of just four participants. We’ll begin by experimenting with mark-making on Tetra Pak plates using drypoint tools and a variety of everyday household objects. You’ll then ink up your test plates using the intaglio method and run them through the press to create your first prints. Next, you’ll design and create your own small plate. Feel free to bring along sketches or reference images you’d like to explore. All materials and tools are provided. Please come dressed for mess — bring an apron and wear clothes you don’t mind getting inky! Mandy enjoys creating images of local areas, places or things that she sees regularly, absorbing scenes and using local history knowledge to create new work. Mandy enjoys creating unique Southampton prints to celebrate the quirkiness of the area and its mix of historic buildings and industrial areas. Mandy is part of our new Artist Shop Cohort. This year’s shop features nine Hampshire-based artists working across a wide range of mediums and styles. Over the next nine months, audiences will be able to purchase the artists’ work and take part in workshops and events, learning directly from the artists themselves. What to expect at this workshop: Workshops in the Cafe Extension: Access to the cafe extension is also step free and there is a ramp available should you need it to access the cafe, toilets and rest of the building. The courtyard has step free access from the corner of lower canal walk and town quay road. Getting Here: GHT is a 25-minute walk from Southampton Central Train station and is on a number of local bus routes. Our closest car parks are Gloucester Square and Mayflower park. This part of the city can get very busy with traffic from the cruise ship terminals on Saturdays so please do allow for extra time if you’re driving.
